A practical, cross-curricular approach is taken to the teaching of Social Studies, Sciences and Technologies. We call this Interdisciplinary Learning or 'Topics' for short. Whilst the focus for our Topics is often based in one main curricular area (History, Geography, Sciences or Design & Technology), we use a variety of other subject areas to reinforce learning, including Art, Drama, Music, Literacy, Numeracy and Learning for Life.
Where possible, teaching is augmented by visiting appropriate sites outside school. In Primary 6 these usually include workshops run by the Glasgow Science Centre (Human Body) and Dynamic Earth (Extreme Earth). As part of our refreshed study of Scottish History and the Human Body, there will be trips to the Scottish Parliament, the battlefields of Bannockburn and the Oriam Performance Centre.
