Our Learning for Life (LL) curriculum permeates all areas of the ESMS school experience and is underpinned by our five Junior School Values. This curriculum encompasses a variety of subjects: Health and Wellbeing (including Physical Education), Religious and Moral Education, Philosophy and Citizenship. It also offers children the opportunity to participate in regular Mindfulness practice and develop their Emotional Vocabulary and Literacy. These subjects will be studied both in the classroom and as part of our weekly assemblies.
The topics and learning opportunities within Learning for Life support our children in developing through nine overarching elements: Identity and Belief, Relationships, A healthy, balanced lifestyle, Risk and Safety, Diversity and Equality, Change and Resilience, Power, Career and Global Citizenship.
In addition, our Learning for Life programme also seeks to develop various skills and attributes in our children through a ‘rights-based’ approach focusing on universal human rights, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), responsibilities towards others and consent.
The ESMS Learning for Life curriculum ensures that our children develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing, both now and in the future. It aims to promote resilience, equality, independence and, importantly, compassion, enabling our children to thrive in an increasingly fast-paced, ever-changing world.
