This area within Learning for Life enables children to recognise religion as an important expression of human experience. The world religion selected for focused study in Primary 1 is Christianity with the addition of Humanism for a non-religious viewpoint.

The children will also be introduced to a variety of religious festivals and information in assemblies. Some examples of areas of study include: Diwali, St Andrew's Day, Advent, Holi and Bible Stories.

In Religious and Moral Education we aim to foster respect and understanding of religious diversity and investigate religious and non-religious viewpoints. The children’s knowledge will be developed based on the real world and the experiences of their peers.

Focused Topics for Study

Christianity (Terms 2-4)

The children will learn about the religion of Christianity by learning about the Christian Creation story and the life of Jesus Christ.  They will also learn about Christian Baptism and specific symbols associated with Christianity.

Humanism (Term 3)

When learning about Christian Baptisms, a non-religious perspective will be provided by also exploring Humanist Naming Ceremonies.
