Through Social Studies, our children begin to develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people and their values, in different times, places and circumstances. Our Nursery children might begin to make personal links with the past, perhaps when they were a baby or remember a special event like a family wedding by looking at photographs. They might also explore what life was like for their grandparents or think about what the world might have been like when the dinosaurs lived on planet Earth!

Through role play, the children might explore also explore how local services and shops provide the things we need.

Through seasonal activities, the children will also experience and be encouraged to explore differing weather conditions and will consider how it makes them and others feel and what it might be like to live in different parts of the world with extreme or different weather conditions from ourselves. The children might also have fun building and creating class weather stations so that they can gather evidence and record their observations.
