When learning about sciences, there are headings to help us group experiences and learning. Some of these include:
- Planet Earth
- Forces
- Materials
Planet Earth:
The children will begin to observe and explore the world around them and begin to develop an awareness of how living things depend on each other. For example, the children may help to plant seeds and learn a about life cycle of the plant or understand the food process from seed to plate or build a bug hotel in the Nursery garden. The children might also begin to develop an understanding of the Earth's resources and the need for responsible use of them. The children might also explore light and shadow or investigate how things like water can change from one form to another through everyday experiences.
Forces:
Some of our children might begin to develop an understanding of how forces can change the shape or motion of an object. For example, exploring trajectories to determine how fast the balls can run down the guttering in the Nursery garden.
Materials
Through creative play, the children will begin to develop an understanding of different materials within their environment and how they can be used in different ways, often learning through practical activities.
