At ESMS we use a balance of formative and summative assessment in order to help us gauge a child's progress over time and to modify our teaching in order to meet their needs. Assessment approaches are appropriate for the age and stage of the child and may include 'in the moment' observations or written assessments. Different Year Groups will complete a range of formal assessments, both pastoral and academic, across the year.

All Year Groups from Primary 2-Primary 7 take part in the Junior School’s annual assessment week which takes place in the Spring Term. Curricular areas assessed at this time are Spelling, Reading and Mathematics. Writing is assessed throughout the year and is based on class work.
