What is the curriculum?

Within Nursery we follow the Curriculum for Excellence which is Scotland’s curriculum for children and young people aged 3-18. We also use Realising the Ambition to support our practice which is the National Practice guidance for Early Years in Scotland.

The Curriculum for Excellence is Scotland's curriculum for children and young people aged 3-18. It's an approach designed to provide young people with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need for learning, life and work in the 21st century.

It aims to enable every child or young person to be a:

  • Successful learner
  • Confident individual
  • Responsible citizen
  • Effective contributor.

The Early Level of the curriculum provides the basis for our children’s learning experiences and is one of 5 levels that ensures a broad general education.

You can find a copy of all of the Early Level experiences and outcomes below which cover 8 areas:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Literacy and English
  • Numeracy and Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts
  • Religious and Moral Education
  • Sciences
