In Physical Education our Nursery children follow a curriculum that offers a wide range of activities and experiences that challenge and develop them physically but also socially and emotionally.
The focus of their work is on 'LEARNING TO MOVE AND MOVING TO LEARN' and is constructed in a fun, colourful and interactive environment.
Lessons are structured to promote individual skill development whilst recognising the importance of building self-confidence and self-esteem within the physical environment. Through partner and small group tasks children develop their interpersonal skills and learn the value of teamwork. They learn to communicate with and respect others, recognise their own and others unique abilities and support their classmates in achieving common goals.
In Nursery the children all receive 45 minutes of formal PE per week and is taught by specialist teachers from the Senior School. The lessons are based in their own hall at Easter Ravelston and when the weather is warmer, they also have the opportunity to have PE outside.
Sessions focus on three areas:
- Me and my movement - developing fundamental movement patterns with and without apparatus.
- Me and my space - awareness of personal space and that of others, negotiating space, using apparatus.
- Me and my equipment - exploring a wide range of equipment, developing handling skills and coordination.
