Learning through Play

With a sense of fun and enjoyment, we adopt a multisensory approach to learning. Parents sometimes ask us when will the real learning begin as their child is ‘just playing’ but play is the most powerful way for your child to learn at this stage. By providing rich learning experiences, children naturally engage in play to make sense of the world. Whether this is as ‘Palaeologists’ searching for different sized dinosaur bones, sailing pirate ships across stormy waters at Forest Kindergarten or caring for a new baby and considering all of the things a baby needs, our children are always busy! Play is not only important for brain development but it also develops important skills for learning. Believe it or not, children begin to develop problem-solving skills, imagination, creativity, language and observation skills as well as memory and concentration through play. Our children are also encouraged to safely explore their feelings through play and this can help build resilience.

It is exceptionally difficult for us to separate the curricular areas as so much of the children’s learning is interlinked but please see below for an insight into some of the experiences the children may have within each curricular area.
